The typical social media user spends an average of 18 hours and 36 minutes per week on social media. TikTok users average the most time per app at 1 hour and 37 minutes daily, followed by Instagram (1 hour 13 minutes) and Facebook (67 minutes), based on Similarweb Android app data reported by DataReportal.
By self-reported monthly use, Facebook leads with 56.3% of adult internet users aged 16+ saying they use it monthly, followed by YouTube (55.3%) and Instagram (54.6%), per GWI survey data. By advertising reach, YouTube tops the list at 2.65 billion monthly, ahead of Facebook (2.39 billion) and TikTok (2.21 billion).
According to the 2025 Sprout Social Index, 81% of consumers say social media drives them to make impulse purchases. The same survey found that 73% would buy from a competitor if a brand failed to respond on social.
