Shopify handles hosting, security and checkout, which is why it suits businesses that want to sell online without maintaining a server. What it does not do on its own is fit the store to how people in India buy: cards and UPI through an Indian gateway, cash on delivery, and product pages that read well on a phone.

I build stores with a marketer's view of where the traffic will come from. Because I also run Google Ads, Meta Ads and SEO, tracking is installed and checked with test purchases before launch, so the first rupee of ad spend is measured correctly.

Payments for Indian buyers

India is not on Shopify's list of countries supported by Shopify Payments, so a store based in India takes online payments through a third-party provider. Shopify adds a third-party transaction fee to those payments, and the rate depends on the plan, so the plan choice and the payment setup are worth deciding together.

Cash on delivery is set up as a manual payment method, and Shopify does not charge the third-party fee on manual payments. Many Indian stores offer both, and I configure whichever mix suits your products and customers.

Can Indian Shopify stores use Shopify Payments?

Does Shopify support cash on delivery (COD) in India?

Yes. Cash on delivery is one of Shopify's manual payment methods. Shopify states that third-party transaction fees are not charged on manual payments, and COD orders show as unpaid until you mark them as paid after collecting the money.

How long does it take to build a Shopify store?

A store with a customised theme and a modest catalogue usually takes 2 to 4 weeks from discovery to launch. Large catalogues, custom features or migrations from another platform take longer, and the timeline is written into the proposal.

Should I choose Shopify or WooCommerce?

Shopify suits businesses that want hosting, security and checkout handled for a monthly fee and do not want to maintain a server. WooCommerce suits businesses that already run WordPress or have a developer and want full control of the code.
