Google Ads Offline Conversion Import Error: What Each Error Means and the Fix
Quick fix
A Google Ads offline conversion import error is listed in offline data diagnostics with a reason. The usual ones: the GCLID is older than 90 days, you uploaded to an account without a matching Import from clicks action, user data wasn't normalised, or the conversion time is before the click.
- Open offline data diagnostics and note the exact error.
- Check the conversion action name matches your upload and its source is
Import from clicks. - Check the clicks are no older than 90 days.
- Check auto-tagging is on, so clicks get a GCLID.

What this error means
When you upload conversions from your CRM or a file, Google matches each one to an ad click. Rows that fail are listed in offline data diagnostics with a reason. Rows that upload successfully can still be missing from reports, because of reporting dates, processing time or counting settings.
Google's examples include identifiers that are too old, the wrong account for the clicks, unknown clicks and invalid conversion times.
Why it happens
1Identifiers are too old
Google keeps the GCLID for 90 days. The error can also mean the conversion is older than your conversion window.
How to tell if this is you: The error says identifiers or iOS URL parameters are too old.
2Wrong account for the clicks
The account you upload to needs a conversion action with the same name as your upload, with source Import from clicks. Manager account uploads need cross account conversion tracking.
How to tell if this is you: The error says wrong Google Ads account for clicks.
3Unknown clicks
The conversion can't be attributed to Google Ads. With enhanced conversions for leads this is expected for non-Google conversions, but if every row shows it, the setup has a problem.
How to tell if this is you: The error says unknown clicks.
4User data isn't normalised
Emails must be lowercase with no extra spaces, country and zip must not be hashed, and phone numbers must be in E.164 format.
How to tell if this is you: The error says user-provided data is not hashed correctly.
5Conversion times are wrong
A conversion can't happen before the click, and a click less than 6 hours old is too recent to import.
How to tell if this is you: The error says invalid conversion times or click too recent.
6No conversion action existed when the click happened
If no conversion types were defined when the click occurred, you need at least one Import from clicks action.
How to tell if this is you: The error says conversion actions not active.
How to fix it
Fix the upload
For: Identifiers are too old, Wrong account for the clicks, No conversion action existed when the click happened, User data isn't normalised, Conversion times are wrong
- Upload more often, or upload an earlier conversion event that happens within 90 days of the click.
- Match the conversion action name exactly and set its source to
Import from clicks. - For manager account uploads, enable cross account conversion tracking.
- Lowercase emails, strip spaces, don't hash country or zip, and use E.164 for phone numbers.
- Add 1-2 days to conversion times that fall before the click, or fix the time zone, and wait 6 hours before importing very recent clicks.
If uploads succeed but conversions are missing
- Remember reports organise conversions by click time; add the
Conversions (by conv. time)column to compare by conversion date. - Check the count setting: with
One, only one conversion per ad interaction is kept. - Some uploaded conversions are discarded as invalid or spam.
How long it takes
Processing usually takes less than 12 hours, but up to 72 hours for GBRAID and WBRAID-keyed conversions.
How to stop it happening again
- Upload frequently so no click passes 90 days.
- Keep auto-tagging on.
- Normalise user data before every upload.
- Plan for the move of uploads to the Data Manager API from June 15, 2026.
From my desk
Timestamp and click ID problems are the first thing I check, such as wrong format, a missing time zone, or a click ID that expired or does not match. I read the error in the upload report and fix that column in the CRM export. Then I upload a small test file.

How long does Google keep the GCLID?
90 days. Upload more often, or upload an earlier event that happens within 90 days.
What does Unknown clicks mean?
The conversion can't be attributed to Google Ads. With enhanced conversions for leads this is expected for conversions from other channels.
Why are my uploaded conversions missing from reports?
Reports use click time, not upload or conversion date, processing can take time, the One count setting keeps only one per interaction, and invalid or spam conversions are discarded.
How long do offline conversions take to appear?
Usually under 12 hours, and up to 72 hours for GBRAID and WBRAID-keyed conversions.
Do I need auto-tagging for offline conversions?
Yes. Google says auto-tagging is required to track offline conversions.
