Facebook Ad Rejected: Landing Page Not Working? How to Fix It

Last checked against Meta's documentation. By Muhammed Abdul Kalam. Blocks some ads

Quick fix

A Facebook ad rejected landing page not working issue means Meta's review of your destination found a problem. The ad and page must promote the same thing. Pages can't redirect to a different domain, trap visitors with pop-ups, or deliver something other than the link promised. Fix the page, check it loads, then edit the ad to resubmit.

  • Open the ad link on a phone and check it loads the page the ad describes.
  • Remove redirects that switch to a different domain.
  • Remove pop-ups that appear when people try to leave.
  • Edit the ad to send it back for review.

What this error means

Meta's ad review can include the landing page, not just the ad. If the page doesn't match the ad, sends people somewhere unexpected, or uses deceptive interface tricks, the ad is rejected.

Meta's Advertising Standards require the products and services in the ad to be the same ones the landing page promotes.

Why it happens

1The page doesn't match the ad

The product or offer in the ad is not what the landing page promotes.

How to tell if this is you: The ad shows one product and the link opens a home page or a different product.

2Redirects to another domain

The page needs an action before showing content and then changes domain, or redirects automatically.

How to tell if this is you: The address bar shows a different domain from the one in the ad.

3Pop-ups or trapping

The page's interface generates accidental clicks, such as pop-ups or pop-unders, or traps people when they try to leave.

How to tell if this is you: Pop-ups appear on load or on exit.

4A misleading link

The link promises one kind of content and delivers something substantially different.

How to tell if this is you: The ad promises an article, download or offer the page does not have.

How to fix it

Fix the landing page

  1. Send the ad to the page that promotes the same product or offer.
  2. Remove redirects to other domains and any gate that changes domain after a click.
  3. Remove exit pop-ups and other interface tricks.

Resubmit

  1. Edit the ad, for example to update the URL. Once edited, it is submitted for another review automatically.

How to appeal or request a review

Request another review only if you believe the ad was incorrectly rejected. If the rejection is overturned it does not count as an ad violation.

  1. Go to Business Support Home.
  2. Select the account or catalog with the rejected ads.
  3. Select the ads, ad sets or campaigns you believe were incorrectly rejected.
  4. Click Request review and select Submit.

What not to do

  • Don't delete the rejected ad first: you may lose the ability to request another review.
  • A second rejection is final for that ad. You will not be able to request another review of it.

How long it takes

Meta aims to review and give a decision on a review request within 48 hours.

How to stop it happening again

  • Check every ad link on mobile before publishing.
  • Never show Meta a different page from the one people see: that is cloaking and is prohibited.
  • Keep the offer on the page identical to the ad.

From my desk

The page often looks fine on the client's own phone but fails elsewhere, so I open the exact URL on mobile and on a different network. I look for slow loading, errors, odd redirects, a firewall or geo-block stopping Meta's crawler, and content that does not match the ad.

When to get help

  • You've edited the ad and requested a review and it is still rejected, and you can't see what triggers it.
  • Several ads in the account are being rejected and you are worried about an advertising restriction.
  • The product or service sits in a regulated category and you are not sure what Meta allows.

FAQs

Yes. Ad review may include the ad's associated landing page or other destinations.

Can I link to my home page?

Only if it promotes the same products or services as the ad. They must match.

Are pop-ups allowed on my landing page?

Pop-ups or pop-unders that generate accidental traffic, and irrelevant pop-ups when people try to leave, count as deceptive landing page functionality.

Why are redirects a problem?

Meta treats pages that change domain after a required action, or redirect automatically to a substantially different domain, as deceptive redirect behaviour.

What is cloaking?

Showing Meta's systems different off-platform content, such as a URL or app, from what users see. It is prohibited.
