Facebook Ad Account Disabled: Why It Happens and How to Fix It

Last checked against Meta's documentation. By Muhammed Abdul Kalam. Blocks all ads

Quick fix

A Facebook ad account disabled by Meta is dealt with in Meta Business Support Home, not Ads Manager. Open your account overview, click the restricted ad account and follow the What you can do section: confirm your identity, complete verification, secure the account or request a review. Only an admin can request the review.

  • Open Meta Business Support Home on a computer and click the restricted account.
  • Read the What you can do section and do each step it lists.
  • Make sure an admin on the ad account handles the review request.
  • Check your payment method has funds and a backup is added.

What this error means

Meta has restricted the ad account, so its ads and some of its advertising assets are switched off. A restriction can follow a policy problem, a suspected hack, missing two-factor authentication or unusual payment activity. Meta looks at advertiser behaviour as well as single ads.

Meta says that if an ad account is restricted, the account, its ads and some of its advertising assets are disabled.

What Meta shows

Request review

Why it happens

1Policy violations

The account, or ads in it, didn't follow the Community Standards, Advertising Standards, Commerce Policies or other terms.

How to tell if this is you: Business Support Home shows rejected ads or a policy reason against the account.

2Suspected compromise

Meta suspects the business portfolio or its assets have been hacked and restricts them to protect you.

How to tell if this is you: You see admins, ads or payment changes you don't recognise.

3Two-factor authentication requirements not met

People with access haven't met Meta's two-factor authentication requirements for account security.

How to tell if this is you: The What you can do section asks you to secure the account.

4Unusual or failed payments

Meta noticed unusual payment or account activity, or high rates of failed or disputed payments.

How to tell if this is you: Recent charges failed, or a payment was disputed with the bank.

How to fix it

Find the reason in Business Support Home

  1. On a computer, open Meta Business Support Home.
  2. From the account overview, click the restricted account.
  3. Look for the What you can do section and take each recommended step.

Fix payment problems

For: Unusual or failed payments

  1. Make sure the card has enough funds, especially near your monthly bill date.
  2. Add a backup payment method so ads are not paused for insufficient funds.
  3. If a charge was disputed or looks wrong, speak to Meta support first, then to your bank about the disputed charge.

Turn ads back on after reinstatement

  1. Ads that were running before the restriction do not restart automatically. Turn them on again in Ads Manager.

How to appeal or request a review

If you believe the ad account was restricted in error, an admin can ask Meta to look again. Requesting a review won't hurt your standing.

  1. Open Business Support Home and choose Account status overview from the menu on the left.
  2. Select the restricted account.
  3. In the What you can do section, select Request review.
  4. Complete the on-screen steps. You must be an admin on the account.

What to include

  • Fix whatever the What you can do section asks for, such as confirming your identity, before you request the review.

What not to do

  • Don't treat it as a free retry: there is a limited number of restriction reviews, and once one is completed the decision is final.

Open Meta's review page

How long it takes

Meta says a restriction review is typically completed in 48 hours, although it may take longer in some cases.

How to stop it happening again

  • Keep two-factor authentication on for everyone with access.
  • Keep a funded card and a backup payment method on the account.
  • Fix rejected ads rather than resubmitting the same content: Meta reviews advertiser behaviour, not just single ads.

From my desk

Before any review request, I read the exact reason Meta gives in Account Quality and look at what ran recently, including ads, landing page, payment history and who changed what. A review goes better when I know what was flagged and can honestly say what has been fixed. The request itself goes through Meta's own review option.

When to get help

  • You've requested a review and been refused, and the account is needed for the business to keep trading.
  • You can't tell which asset is restricted: the personal profile, the ad account, the Page or the business portfolio.
  • Several people and agencies have access and nobody is sure who changed what.
