Facebook Identity Confirmation Stuck or Rejected: What to Do

Last checked against Meta's documentation. By Muhammed Abdul Kalam. Blocks some ads

Quick fix

Facebook identity confirmation stuck means Meta is still reviewing your ID or has rejected it. Go to facebook.com/id to see the reason. The common ones are a name that doesn't match your profile or a poor photo. Fix that and resubmit, or appeal if you think Meta made a mistake.

  • Check facebook.com/id for the reason the ID was not confirmed.
  • Make sure your profile name matches the name on your ID.
  • Retake the photo: clear, focused, on a dark background, all 4 corners visible.
  • Upload JPG or PNG files under 20 MB.

What this error means

Meta asks some advertisers to confirm who they are, for example before running ads about social issues, elections or politics, or when a restricted account lists Confirm your identity as a step. Your ID is reviewed, and if it can't be confirmed you get a message saying why.

Why it happens

1Name mismatch

The name on your ID doesn't match the name on your Facebook profile.

How to tell if this is you: The message at facebook.com/id mentions a naming mismatch.

2Photo problem

The ID photo was blurry, had glare or cut off part of the card.

How to tell if this is you: The message mentions a problem with the photo you submitted.

3Another reason

The ID was rejected for a different reason that the message explains.

How to tell if this is you: The reason shown at facebook.com/id is neither of the above.

How to fix it

Resubmit a better ID photo

For: Photo problem

  1. Take a sharp, in-focus photo with the ID on a dark surface.
  2. Lay the ID flat so all 4 corners show.
  3. Upload JPG or PNG files under 20 MB.

Fix a name mismatch

For: Name mismatch

  1. Make sure your profile name matches the name on your ID.
  2. If your ID still is not accepted, Meta may offer a notarised form as a replacement. It must be done in person: digital notaries are not accepted.

Keep two-factor authentication on

  1. Two-factor authentication is part of the process, and you must keep it on at all times.

How to appeal or request a review

If you think Meta made a mistake, appeal from facebook.com/id.

  1. Go to facebook.com/id and review why your ID could not be confirmed.
  2. Choose to appeal the decision.

Open Meta's review page

How long it takes

Meta says to allow 48 hours for a response to an appeal. It does not publish a timeline for the first review.

How to stop it happening again

  • Keep your profile name matching your legal ID.
  • If you advertise in the United States and are asked to reconfirm, do it within 60 days of the notice.

From my desk

Name and details need to match the account exactly, and the ID image is clear, uncropped and not expired. If it still stalls, it goes through Meta's own identity and support route. I never use borrowed IDs, edited documents or other workarounds.
