Quick fix

Facebook pixel not firing usually means the base code is missing, in the wrong place, duplicated, or blocked. Check it sits in the head of every page, isn't duplicated, and loads before your events. Turn off ad blockers, then check the page with Meta Ads Data Advisor and confirm the expected event shows as successful in the test events tool.

  • Open the page with Meta Ads Data Advisor and check for a Pixel badge.
  • Turn off ad blockers and trigger the action.
  • Check the base code is in the head, with no duplicates.
  • Confirm the event shows as successful in the extension and test events tool.

What this error means

The Meta Pixel is code that sends your visitors' actions to Meta. When it isn't firing, the code is missing, placed wrongly, duplicated, blocked by a browser tool, or its events are not loading after the base code. Without events, ads can't be measured or optimised well.

Why it happens

1No Pixel on the page

If the extension icon has no badge, no Pixel is installed on that page.

How to tell if this is you: Meta Ads Data Advisor shows no badge.

2Base code in the wrong place

The base code should sit within the head section.

How to tell if this is you: The code is in the body or loaded late.

3Duplicate Pixel code

Pixel code repeated on one page causes errors.

How to tell if this is you: The page includes the code twice, for example theme plus plugin.

4Blocked by browser tools or an iframe

Ad blockers, privacy tools, iframes and tag managers can stop the Pixel.

How to tell if this is you: It fires in a clean browser but not yours.

5The tool simply cannot see the event

Button-click events, custom conversions and some advanced events may not show in the extension.

How to tell if this is you: Ad reports show the event but the extension does not.

How to fix it

Check and test the Pixel

For: No Pixel on the page, Blocked by browser tools or an iframe

  1. Turn off ad blockers on the site, then click the Data Advisor icon.
  2. Perform the action you want to track.
  3. Confirm the expected event appears and shows as successful.

Fix the code

For: Base code in the wrong place, Duplicate Pixel code

  1. Place the base code within the head section.
  2. Remove duplicate Pixel code.
  3. Load standard events after the base code.

Use the test events tool

For: The tool simply cannot see the event

  1. Use the test events tool in Events Manager for in-depth troubleshooting.
  2. If events do not appear within a minute, refresh and interact with the site again.
  3. Try another browser if the tool shows a warning.

How long it takes

Meta doesn't publish a timeline for this.

How to stop it happening again

  • Test every new page template and tag manager change.
  • Add the Conversions API alongside the Pixel.
  • Keep one Pixel base code per page.

From my desk

Meta Pixel Helper on the site, plus Test Events in Events Manager, shows whether the pixel loads at all. If not, I look at where the code sits, any consent banner or blocker, and the pixel ID. Then I check the specific event on the right page.
