Facebook Page Restricted or Unpublished: Why It Happens and How to Fix It

Last checked against Meta's documentation. By Muhammed Abdul Kalam. Blocks all ads

Quick fix

A Facebook Page restricted or unpublished has been judged against the Community Standards. Meta's listed reasons include spam, a misleading name, admins without authentic profiles, or repeated ad policy violations. A Page with no full-control admin is deactivated too. If you think it's a mistake, open the Page and click Appeal at the top.

  • Open the Page and look for the Appeal option at the top.
  • Check every admin uses an authentic profile you know and trust.
  • Check at least one person has full control of the Page.
  • Check the Page name accurately reflects the Page.

What this error means

Meta has taken the Page down or placed limits on it because it, or the people running it, didn't follow the Community Standards. A restricted Page also isn't allowed to advertise, so ads that run from it stop.

Meta says Pages may be taken down or have limits placed on them if they don't follow its Community Standards.

Why it happens

1Spam or misleading content

Pages that publish spam may be unpublished or deactivated, and Pages that gain likes deceptively can lose the Like button.

How to tell if this is you: The Page posted the same links repeatedly, or bought or exchanged likes.

2Admins without authentic profiles

Not every admin represents themselves with an authentic profile.

How to tell if this is you: An admin uses a second or fake-name profile, or you don't recognise them.

3A misleading Page name

The Page name, or a big change to it, could mislead people.

How to tell if this is you: The Page was recently renamed to something quite different.

4Severe or repeated ad violations

Meta may disable the ad account and take down the Page for severe or repeated ad policy violations.

How to tell if this is you: The ad account linked to the Page was disabled at the same time.

5No admin with full control

Without at least one person with full control, the Page is deactivated and scheduled for deletion.

How to tell if this is you: The person who had full control left the business or deactivated their profile.

How to fix it

Fix who manages the Page

For: Admins without authentic profiles, No admin with full control

  1. Remove admins you do not know or trust.
  2. If the last full-control person is no longer active, submit a Page admin dispute.

Appeal an ads-related takedown

For: Severe or repeated ad violations

  1. Appeal through the Policy Disabled Ad Account Help form or through Ads Manager.

How to appeal or request a review

If the Page was taken down or limited by mistake, appeal from the Page itself.

  1. Go to the Page and click Appeal at the top.

Open Meta's review page

How long it takes

Meta doesn't publish a timeline for this.

How to stop it happening again

  • Only add admins you know and trust, and remove yourself from Pages you no longer manage.
  • Keep at least one active person with full control.
  • Don't rename the Page to something that could mislead followers.

From my desk

Page Quality and Page access come first, since a policy flag or a setting changed by mistake can both unpublish a Page. If Meta has restricted it, the appeal goes through Meta's own support route, not through a replacement Page.

When to get help

  • You've appealed and the Page is still down, and it carries your ads and reviews.
  • The person with full control has left and you need to prove the Page belongs to the business.
