Facebook Business Manager Cannot Add People: Why and How to Fix It
Quick fix
Facebook business manager cannot add people usually because you lack full control of the business portfolio, so the People option is missing. Other causes are an unconfirmed email address, a disabled or restricted account on either side, a pending approval, or an email that doesn't match the person's Facebook account. Check these in Meta Business Suite Settings.
- Check Settings shows
PeopleorPartners; if not, you may lack full control. - Confirm your email address under Business info.
- Check neither account is disabled or restricted.
- Check the invited email matches the Facebook account.

What this error means
Only people with full control of a business portfolio can add people or partners and assign assets such as ad accounts, Pages or Instagram accounts. If you cannot see the option, or an invitation fails, it's usually a permission, email or account status problem.
Why it happens
1No full control
Only people with full control can add people.
How to tell if this is you: People is missing from Settings.
2Unconfirmed email address
You may need to confirm your email before adding people.
How to tell if this is you: Business info shows a request to confirm your email.
3A disabled or restricted account
Neither you nor the invitee can have a disabled or restricted account.
How to tell if this is you: Either account has a restriction notice.
4Awaiting approval
Another person with full control may need to approve your request.
How to tell if this is you: The request shows as pending.
5Email or account type mismatch
The invite email must match the Facebook account, and managed Meta account organisations can only invite managed accounts.
How to tell if this is you: The invite is sent but never matches the person.
How to fix it
Get the right access
For: No full control, Awaiting approval
- If nobody has full control, submit a request to get it.
- Ask another person with full control to approve under Requests.
Fix your account details
For: Unconfirmed email address, A disabled or restricted account
- Confirm your email under Business info.
- Resolve any disabled or restricted account first.
Send the invitation correctly
For: Email or account type mismatch
- Go to Settings, then
People, thenInvite people. - Use the email that matches the person's Facebook account.
- Ask the person to accept the invitation.
Add a partner or agency
For: No full control
- Open
Partnersin the Users section of Settings. - Ask the partner for their business portfolio ID and turn on two-factor authentication.
How long it takes
After someone accepts an invitation, features may take a few days to reach them.
How to stop it happening again
- Keep more than one person with full control of the portfolio.
- Assign only the access each person needs.
- Log in to an Instagram account in Settings before assigning it.
From my desk
Permissions and invitations are my first checks. The person adding needs full admin access, the invite email should match the person's Facebook login, and the invite must be accepted. For an agency, partner access through the Business portfolio is the cleaner route.
