The Scale plan unlocks paid subscriptions, the ad network, advanced analytics, and automations. The Max plan at $109/month (monthly) removes Beehiiv branding and adds dynamic content and priority support. All prices scale upward with subscriber count above the base thresholds.

Kit pricing also starts free, and this is where Kit has a real advantage: the Newsletter plan supports up to 10,000 subscribers at no cost. That’s four times Beehiiv’s free tier ceiling. Paid plans start at $29/month (Creator, up to 1,000 subscribers) for automated sequences and integrations, and $59/month (Creator Pro) for subscriber scoring, advanced analytics, and Facebook Custom Audiences. Annual billing saves 20% across paid plans.

The pricing gap at entry level is notable: Kit’s $29/month Creator plan costs less than Beehiiv’s $49/month Scale plan. But that comparison obscures some important context. Beehiiv’s Scale plan includes monetization tools that Kit’s Creator plan doesn’t have. And Kit’s Creator plan is designed for a different job entirely — it’s not a stripped-down version of the same product.

For larger lists, the cost trajectories are similar. Both platforms charge more as your subscriber count grows, which is standard in the industry.

When to Choose Beehiiv

Beehiiv makes the most sense when the newsletter is the business, not a channel for another business.

If you want to earn money through paid subscriptions or sponsorships, Beehiiv has those tools built in and ready to use. You don’t need a separate membership platform or a bespoke ad deal workflow — the infrastructure is there on the Scale plan. Beehiiv also wins if you plan to run multiple newsletters. The Scale plan supports up to three publications; Max supports ten. Media companies and operators building multiple newsletter properties don’t have to manage separate accounts.

When to Choose Kit

Kit is the right call when email is a tool in your business, not the product itself.

Course creators, coaches, and anyone running an online business with a product catalog need email automation that responds to purchase behavior, integrates with their commerce platform, and can execute multi-step nurture sequences. Kit was built for exactly this. Its visual automation builder handles complex branching logic that Beehiiv’s automation system isn’t designed to replicate.

Kit’s free tier deserves mention again for anyone just starting out. Getting to 10,000 subscribers before paying anything is a meaningful benefit. If you’re writing a newsletter as a side project or early-stage business and aren’t sure whether it’ll stick, Kit lets you go much further before making a financial commitment.

Where They’re Genuinely Different

The monetization model is the sharpest difference. Beehiiv treats monetization as a first-class feature — something the platform is actively built around. Kit treats monetization as something you layer on top via its commerce tools or integrations. Neither approach is wrong, but they produce very different products.

Automation depth is the second real divergence. Kit’s automation builder is more powerful for sales-driven workflows. If the newsletter is your marketing channel (a way to build trust, nurture leads, and drive conversions for courses, consulting, products, or memberships you sell elsewhere), Kit is the stronger choice. Its automation depth and integration breadth serve that model better.

The free tier calculus is straightforward: Kit gives you more room to grow before you pay. If you’re not sure which business model fits you yet, starting on Kit’s free tier and migrating later is a reasonable strategy. Kit even offers free migration assistance, so the switching cost isn’t as high as it might seem.

Neither platform is a bad choice. Both are genuinely well-built and actively maintained. The only mistake is picking based on surface-level feature comparisons rather than which business model each tool was designed to support.
